Hi GymBeat Family,
It’s January and 2021 has finally arrived! Yes, we can't believe it either. But even though a new year is finally here, we all know that every problem we had in 2020 isn't automatically gone just because it’s a new year. That being said, it is a great opportunity to draw a clean slate after a completely unprecedented year and focus on new goals and ambitions as we turn the page and get a fresh start.

Coach of the Month
Daryl Harris
Coach Daryl is such a nice guy! That’s what most people admire about him first off! Second, he is gifted in so many areas! Competition diving, singing, certified yoga instruction, choreography, as well as gymnastics & tumbling. And as if that wasn’t enough, he is currently attending college classes to pick up his 2nd degree, this time in Accounting and Business Administration in order to become a state certified CPA! Want to hear more? Recently, Daryl earned a series of certificates recognized by the ‘Bureau of Security and Investigative Services’ and became a licensed security guard. Some of his training included ‘CPR, School Safety, and Powers to Arrest’. Daryl is currently coaching gymnastics level 1a on Mondays at 5pm and levels 1b/c on Wednesdays also at 5pm. When your student learns from coach Daryl, not only will they get a lesson plan, but they will also get to hear him sing and throw a back flip at the same time! Thank you coach Daryl!!

Athletes of the Month
Ericka Kramer
Ericka has been with our gym for over 5 years. She will be turning 11 in February and is currently in 5th grade. Ericka enjoys all of her classes at school, even if it’s all virtual! She is taking tumbling 1c and 2a with coach Jill. Her favorite area is the floor exercise and #1 skill to improve on is the round off back-handspring. Ericka’s outside activities include cheer and soccer and has two dogs named Lexie and Rex. Ericka considers Gymnastics Beat, her 2nd home and wants to learn as much as she can. Keep training Ericka, next on your skill list is the ‘back tuck’! Bug your coach!

Savannah Lewis
Savannah has taken a variety of classes with us for the past 5 years and is currently taking tumbling level 2a with coach Jill on Wednesdays at 5pm. Her favorite events are the beam, bars, vault and floor exercises, especially the tumbling part! Savannah’s goals are to master the back tucks and eventually move on to full twisting layouts! Who knows, maybe compete for our xcel gymnastics team one day! Outside activities include traveling and roller-skating! Savannah is a lover of all animals, so naturally has a dog named Rey and a cat named Poosh. Would your parents consider a pet snake or parrot? Hmmm… might as well start a zoo then!
Sam's Corner
Happy New Year to everyone! Yes, this is the time, most of us want to do something productive and progressive as we enter a brand-new year! So, what shall it be? Become healthier? Find a new job? Find a 2nd job? (especially under these Covid conditions). Perhaps learn to meditate or try yoga? Exercise more? These things mentioned are great for adults, but what we all prioritize as parents or guardians is getting our kids back into the gym! Face it, this pandemic has hurt not only our entire world, but locally, it hits just as hard at home! Our kids in general, have lost those precious PE classes in school and outdoor recesses, since schools have been closed down the past 10 months. Everyone needs movement activities. Kids need to run and play! Competition teams like our Pyramid Athletics and Junior Olympic and Xcel gymnastics teams are thriving and will be competing very soon….virtually! So, a great idea for everyone, start writing down your goals for this year and don’t forget, exercise is a great start! We all need it!
